The 2024 Term One is at an end.
At the beginning of April, 42 new students joined the school and were instantly exposed to KI Life: English classes in English. Now that the term is complete, it is obvious to many of the teachers that the students have worked hard to adapt to this challenge. The final *SL Interview exams saw high averages. This long road to fluency has certainly begun for many.

The first year students were not the only ones to be faced with a challenge. Third years had the double-whammy of Model United Nations events. As previously reported on the KIHS Blog, the students worked hard to be successful at Kyoto and became capable leaders at Osaka. Their communicative confidence is at an all-time high just in time for the beginning of University Application Season: their next mountain to climb.

Now, let’s not leave out the second years. Although they have had few challenges in the first term, more than half will spend time in England and Australia this summer. Australia will bring new experiences of education as they dive into Ozzy high school life. Those going to England will have to face daily English classes as well as getting used to life in a small town. Both groups will be staying with local families who will guide them through the trials associated with living in English.

So, as you can see, KI throws up plenty of challenges for students to discover who they are. Hopefully, next time I write a blog I will be talking about how well the students have risen to these various trials and tribulations.
