Well, it’s a new year and already the first term is finished. It’s test week, actually. I’ve graded my Ecology and Environmental Science midterm exams.
The 3rd years did exceptionally well for the most part. The 2nd years didn’t do quite as well. Is it because the 3rd years are smarter??? Nope. They just listen better. I told both classes what was on the exam, but when I said “Learn ALL the vocabulary!”, the 3rd years listened……and studied….and memorized. Almost every 3rd year student was perfect in the vocabulary section…only 1 2nd year student was perfect.
What about English Speaking? I don’t know yet. I’m giving the exams today. Did they study? Probably. Did they listen? I hope so.

さあ、新年度が始まり、すでに第１ターム（前期中間までの授業）も終わった。今はすでに試験週だ。「エコロジー」（２年生）、「地球環境」（３年生）の採点はすでに終えた。
３年生はほとんどの分野でとても良くできていたね。２年生は３年生ほどではなかった。それって、３年生が２年生より学力があるからなのかな？　いやいや、よく話を聞いているからだと思う。両方のクラスで、テストで何が出るか話していたんだ。「すべての語句を勉強しておくように」と言った時、３年生はよく聞いていた。そして・・・勉強し・・・覚えた。実際、ほとんどの３年生は語句のセクションは完璧だった。２年生で完璧だったのはたった１人だったのに。
「スピーキング」（英会話）はどうかって？　それはまだわからない。今日、テストがある。彼らが勉強してきたか？　おそらくね。よく聞いていたか？　そう願いたい。
